Something Horrible (and good) is Coming...

...and it's the first day of school! Ugh.

I want summer to last for ever. No homework please:) Although, I would like to see my friends on a daily basis again, that's something I look forward too. Now sitting here on my bed thinking about it, grade 10 brings a lot of unwanted things... provincial exams, hard courses, brain exploding against the wall. Yup, I'm gonna have a awesome year. *sarcasm intended*

Any hoo, this isn't the reason for this post. I wanted to put out some titles for the upcoming book reviews! Yay!

Upcoming Book Reviews:

  • Team Human: Justine Larbalestier & Sarah Rees Brennan
  • Silence (The Queen of the Dead #1): Michelle Sagara
  • Across the Universe: Beth Revis
  • 52 Reasons to Hate My Father: Jessica Brody

All very wonderful books coming up for review. Sorry about the no picture thing, I am bit tired, since school is just around the corner.

Night night, sleep tight:)

I changed the font of everything, so it fits my messy writing and changed it to a purple theme, since I LOVE PURPLE!!! Stars... I don't know why I put stars but, I love looking at them so I put them in.

Someone New to the World of Blogging...

Okay, so my sister... let's call her Leaf has made a blog of her own. It's called Forest of Books.
This was my second birthday gift to her. She loves books and for the past year she has asked for a blog. Now she has one!

Since she is still really new to the world of blogging, she will have grammar mistakes and short reviews. But I am 100% sure that she will improve in the coming years. She is playing around with the setting and layout of her blog, trying to make as best as possible. Leave a comment for her and tell her what to improve on, she will welcome the comments:)

Thanks, Sunshine

The Lightning Thief Comparision (Book-Movie)

Okay, so everyone knows that the first book in the Percy Jackson series was made into a book. And now they are making a second movie. Happy or Sad? I don't know which one to feel. Because I am a HUMONGOUS fan of those books and I felt like they totally butchered the first movie.

What was the point of the movie? To save Percy's mom, yes. But the whole adventure part was to get three pearls? Hello, if they had used their brains they might have realized that they needed four pearls. There were so many good, great parts in the book and they just totally cancelled it out in the movie. I mean where is the part where he jumps off the building, lands in water and talks to the water spirit? I really wanted to see that part in the movie. And what is wrong with Annabeth? Sure she's pretty, but what about the "real" Annabeth look? Remember gray eyes, blond, curly hair, teases Percy whenever he's around. Instead we end up with straight, brown hair, blue eyes and a look that looks like she rather skin Percy alive. Not once, did I hear her call Percy, Seaweed Brain!

    How did this become this...

Complete opposites!

The other actors were fine, but why are they so old? Annabeth should not be fully developed and Percy should not have a deep voice. In the book, they are 11 years old! So why give them actors who are 19-20?

They don't even wear their orange Camp Half-Blood t-shirts!! And where is the part where this is a small dingy camp for Demigods? Not some rich, expensive loft for young kids? I mean clearly they live in regular cabins with bunks. And Percy was supposed to be in the Hermes cabin, then figure out he is the son of Poseidon!

And can somebody tell me why Percy's shoes don't drag Grover to the edge of Tartarus? I thought that was the whole point of the series. Kronos is rising and that's Percy's first glimpse that something big is going to happen.

The last thing is where is the part where they sneak onto a truck full of animals and set them free? Whatever, I just pray to God, that the sequel will overcome this horribly butchered movie.

Speaking of the second movie... my friend saw the shooting of it!!! They were at this pool/park/forest area in Burnaby called Robert Burnaby pool/park and she just happened to wander by!! Logan Lerman was there acting ans so was Annabeth. And catch this... a think fans were pretty upset about Annabeth, because her hair is blonde!!! Yes! They had the whole set up at the park. My friend got some shots of it, I'll see if I can get some photos...

Okay, that's all for this post. Make sure to check my blog for the next book-movie Comparision I do... THE HUNGER GAMES

The Boy Recession: Flynn Meaney
Where have all the boys gone?
Down-to-earth Kelly is always the friend and never the girlfriend. But as her junior year of high school starts, Kelly is determined to finally reveal her true feelings for her long-time crush and good friend Hunter – that is, until the Boy Recession hits.

Over the past summer, an overwhelming number of male students have left Kelly and Hunter’s small high school class. Some were sent to private school and others moved away. Whatever the case, the sudden population shift has left the already small Julius P. Heil High in desperate shape. The football coach is recruiting chess champs for his team, the principal’s importing male exchange students to balance out school dances, and Hunter is about to become an unexpected heartthrob.

Content with his role as the guitar-strumming, class-skipping slacker, Hunter is unprepared to be the center of attention. Desperate coaches are recruiting him for sports teams, and the drama teacher casts him in the lead role of the school musical. Even the Spandexers, powerful popular girls in tight pants, are noticing Hunter in a new light – with a little work, he could have potential. He might even be boyfriend material…

In order to stand out from the crowd and win Hunter’s heart, Kelly needs a “stimulus package” in the form of cougar lessons from a senior girl who dates hot freshman boys and advice on the male mind from her Cosmo-addicted best friend, Aviva. As if dating wasn’t hard enough without a four-to-one ratio!

Review: Dark Frost (Mythos Academy #3)

Author: Jennifer Estep

Genre: Romance, Mythology, Fantasy, YA

Pages: 336

Date of Release: May 29, 2012

Publisher: Kensington

Rating: 9/10

Summary: I’ve seen so many freaky things since I started attending Mythos Academy last fall. I know I’m supposed to be a fearless warrior, but most of the time, I feel like I’m just waiting for the next Bad, Bad Thing to happen. Like someone trying to kill me—again.

Everyone at Mythos Academy knows me as Gwen Frost, the Gypsy girl who uses her psychometry magic to find lost objects—and who just may be dating Logan Quinn, the hottest guy in school. But I’m also the girl the Reapers of Chaos want dead in the worst way. The Reapers are the baddest of the bad, the people who murdered my mom. So why do they have it in for me?

It turns out my mom hid a powerful artifact called the Helheim Dagger before she died. Now, the Reapers will do anything to get it back. They think I know where the dagger is hidden, but this is one thing I can’t use my magic to find. All I do know is that the Reapers are coming for me—and I’m in for the fight of my life

Review: I. Cannot. Wait. Until. The. Next. Book. That's all I have too say... just kidding:) But the first part I am dead serious!! I thought this book kept  me on my toes the whole time. Except when Gwen started being like, "I need to know everything about you." *Gwen's creepy face*

This series has come such a long way (actually pretty short, considering this is only the third book) and it has improved by sooooooooo much. Compared to the first book, I just enjoyed this one much more. I still wish Logan could be a little more 3D as a person. Like with feelings and stuff. I enjoyed reading about Logan telling Gwen to take her big nose and take it out of his business. I cheering him on! Gwen had to realize by then how nosy she is. Sometimes you can't really blame her... wait, yes you can! She has these awesome powers to look through a person's past and stuff. She can use it to help the elders at the school, she does but then she just wants to go through her friend's minds and grab every little detail too? So wrong.

Gwen also was being a jerk to Daphne. I mean stop worrying about yourself and take a look around... your BFF is suffering.

Okay, done my Gwen rant:)

Anyways, I enjoyed this book. Putting Gwen aside the villains were awesome! I know I shouldn't be cheering them on, but they really fooled Gwen. I mean Gwen's opposite does so many things to change Gwen's direction of thinking. I just thought she was awesome. There are some small plots but they intertwine with the main plot beautifully. It didn't seem confusing at all. If I tried to do that I would probably have people screaming in confusion:) I, myself scream in confusion sometimes.

The beginning set the book off perfectly and you cold already tell what the main purpose of the book would be. To be honest, some parts were predictable. Like I knew who Loki's Champion was, even though Gwen hadn't figured it out.

I will say this again, but the ending was my favourite part. A bit sad for Gwen, but wonderful. It was interesting how she used her powers to take the other guy's life. But then she realizes what happened and freaks out. And it's just adorable how she cares that she might take Logan's life away by touching him. I thought that was the end of their relationship, but they overcame it... together.

I have ran out of things to say about this book. It was just really good. A wonderful journey this series takes you on to see how Gwen saves the world, before everything goes crashing down.

As most people know, there is a fourth book coming out - Crimson Frost - on December 24th, 2012. Right on time for Christmas! And a fifth book is coming out in August 2013. Can't wait to get my hands on those books!!!

Read my review on, Touch of Frost: Jennifer Estep
Read my review on, Kiss of Frost: Jennifer Estep

Logan gave me a crooked grin. "You won't hurt me. I know you won't."
"How can you be so sure?" I whispered.

His grin widened. "Because you're that Gypsy girl, and I'm the bad-boy Spartan. And I think it's time we were finally together, don't you?"

                                              -Dark Frost

*Me, drooling at this quote*

Something new...

Just teensy post. I have a review coming up on the Fariewalker series by Jenna Black. Before you say whats new about that? It has three mini-reviews in one post. Why? Because I read all three books in one day, so I decided throw them all together. Because I don't it's interesting to read about three books that I might say the same things too. Look out for this review in about two to three days:)

And sorry again for not posting a lot this past month. May things to do in prep for school. Duh da duh da, Grade 10 here I come!

Can you see the resemblance? Hehe

Review: The Host (The Host #1)

Author: Stephenie Meyer

Genre: Science Fiction, Fantasy, YA

Pages: 619

Date of Release: May 6, 2008

Publisher: Little, Brown and Company

Rating: 10/10

Summary: Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.

When Melanie, one of the few remaining "wild" humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Wanderer probes Melanie's thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.

Review: I must be feeling generous this month, because this is the second book I gave a ten out of ten. In the beginning I wasn't so sure about it, cause I thought it would be going back between Melanie and Wanda. But boy was I wrong. Good thing, my friends bugged me to read it or might have never had.

The Host, takes place in the future. Souls, such as Wanda, take humans as hosts and live in them until they die. The humans don't remember anything. They mentally die, while the soul uses their body to live in. I thought that was cruel and sick. The souls thought "oh, the humans are fine, we just need a host to take over and live in them." What?! Don't they care about the humans? Apparently Earth was the only planet that refused to give the should their bodies. Ugh, I wonder why?

One thing I found super duper cool, is Wanda's stories. They are unbelievable! I actually enjoyed reading about Wanda telling Jamie about all the planets she lived on. Like the Bear planet with their scary claw beasts. Or the Bat planet with their delightful singing. I found weird that there could be other organisms that live really different then they do. I don't know how Stephanie Meyer came up this stuff. It was so much better than her traditional vampire love story.

As many people told me, the book doesn't get interesting until after 100 pages. I agree with them. It started of slow, then started to get interesting, then it just blew my mind. Everything came so neatly, like Melanie was still inside of Wanda and showing her bits and pieces of the life she had. I don't don't want to ruin the story for you guys, because this book is just too awesome to explain.

All of the characters were different and unique. I just wished Wanda dwelled on them a little bit more. Like when Wes died and his girlfriend was in grieving. Or when they tested out taking a soul out of a humans body. I guess Wanda didn't want to upset someone, but it's nice to know what happened to them later.

And my all most favourite part... *insert drumroll* THE END! Not of the review, but of the book. First I'm like "oh no!" Then I'm like "YES!" An awesome ending to end a awesome book. I was so scared it would be the end of the little humans rebelling, but then it turned around and became so much more great.

Just one random question floating around my head. When Wanda is switched into a different body of an 18 year old, I wonder how old Ian is? I mean the love of your life is 18 years old, physically and your how old again?

"There was no hatred in your heart," I whispered. "That you existed is proof that we were wrong. We had no right to take your world from you, Walter. I hope your fairytales are true. I hope you find your Gladdie."

Summary: How do you come clean when your life is a mess?

Fifteen-year-old Junie is barely coping. Her mother has started sleeping in the chair in front of the TV, and the house is so packed with junk, newspapers, cupboard organizers and other helpful items from the Shopping Channel that she can barely get in the front door. Her father is no help, since he’s always with That Woman. To top it off, she’s failing math.

So when Wade Jaffre, the hot new guy at school, offers her a ride home from school, it seems too good to be true. Junie surprises herself by accepting—and even talking! But as they approach her house, her parents are outside, screaming at each other. Junie doesn’t have to think twice about directing him on to her best friend Tabitha’s house, nor about continuing the charade of pretending she lives there.

Tabitha and her mother are understanding—and willing to go along, for the moment. But as the weeks go by, Junie’s lies start piling up and the opportunity to tell the truth seems to slip away. Until the day Junie’s world—and her mother’s—is literally turned inside out for the world to see, and Junie and her mother must face the consequences of her mother’s illness ... and the lies they both told to hide it.

Review: The summary does not do this book justice! This book is raw. I was cringing from parts in the book, because they were so RAW and REAL (alliteration, people!). Even so, this was a heck of a good book. I just finished it last night around 1:00am. That's why my eyes look like bruises today.

Junie's mother has a problem, a hoarding problem. There house is full of things that her mom buys through the television. I could imagine that being real, because there are people out there that do have this disorder. It was interesting break reading this book, because it didn't involve anything supernatural. Junie has a crush a on a really cute guy named Wade. Wade is the new guy in town and starts to notice Junie. One day, he offers Junie a ride. But as they near her house, Wade sees a divorced couple yelling in the middle of their front yard. Little does he know that they are Junie's parents and poor Junie is so embarrassed she lies and tells him to go to a house a block down.

This is the part where it gets cringy, like you know she is going to do something bad and there will be harsh consequences. She tells Wade that she lives in that house, but really it's her best friend's house. Junie gets Tabitha and her mom to go along with this lie. When Tabitha's mom tells Junie to fix he problem, she doesn't. She keeps lying to Wade and the lies just keep piling up. After everything is going so well in Junie's world of lies, it comes crashing down and her lies are spread out for the world to see... literally.

Every time I turned the next page, I kept thinking this is when the poo is going to hit the fan. I was into the book, that my heart sped up every time she told another lie. Though, that's why I enjoyed this book. It started to get really interesting at the end when the TV people come and expose Junie on live television. Whew, I tried to imagine what would happen if that were me and I think I would live my days in a remote cave. Seriously.

I thought the characters were really well developed. Carrie Mac made believe that I could have friends like that. If I had to choose a character to be, it would be Tabitha. It is wrong to lie and she tried to tell Junie that, but she wouldn't listen. Wade seem to have his own personality and wanted to have Junie in his life. I thought Junie was a little bit selfish and dumb when she thought it was okay to lie for "a little while." That is just not right. Junie's mom... a didn't like her one bit. Not because of her problem, but because she manipulates Junie. I mean seriously, are really going to make your fifteen year old daughter help you clean up piles of poo, pee, just plain sewage, because you don't want anyone in your house. I would have moved to the other side of the country. And every time Junie tried to reason with her, she would end up crying. I don't know how Junie put up with it.

The story line was wonderful. It didn't just explode together, it came part after part. Beginning, middle and end, just like they teach you in grade three.

I don't have anything else to say. I guess you have to read it to be blown away by it's awesomeness. A hundred high-fives to the author who made this astounding book. Whoo hoo!

My Time in My "Coffin"

So as my viewers have noticed I haven't been doing anything on my blog. This is because I have been exhausted and I have become (metaphorically) a vampire. Mwahahahahahahahahaha! Just kidding. Only thing that gives any evidence that I may be a vamp is the dark half-moons under my eyes. And the messy nest that has appeared in my room. Not joking. it took me forever to clean it.

I also went on another trip to  Harrison Hot Springs. A beautiful place just three hours away from my homecity. RANDOM THOUGHT: Thinking about the opposite of vamps are werewolves. And it is pretty funny, my sisters and I were at my cousins house this last Monday and they have a big forest with a creek in their backyard. Late at night, one of my sisters yelled out, "I want to be a werewolf, " and then she howled. I told her to be quiet or coyotes were going to come. Sure enough, two minutes later we heard howls. It cracks me up, because imagine 12 year old female going hairy and howling at the full moon!
Totally imagining her like this. hahaha
